WATCH — A Brown v. Board Oral History: Brigitte Brown Recalls How Her Mother’s Lawsuit in Delaware Helped Win Over the Supreme Court on School Segregation

Brigitte Brown is the daughter of Ethel Louise Belton, a plaintiff in Delaware’s Belton (Bulah) v. Gebhart case that was later consolidated as part of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case.

In this interview, Brown recounts the story of how her grandmother became part of the legal fight for racial equality in public schools.

Brigitte was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, and attended the University of Delaware on an academic scholarship, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts/visual communications and a minor in biology. In 2015, Brigitte launched a consulting and contracting company called B.I.G. Consulting and Contracting; B.I.G. stands for “Because I’m a Girl.”
